Digestate

Digestate remains after the fermentation of manure. This by-product can be used as fertilizer because it contains many minerals. The composition of digestate and natural manure differs, because organic material is broken down during the fermentation of manure. For plants, digestate contains more easily absorbable nitrogen. When the digestate consists of less than 50% animal excrement after fermentation, it may not be used as fertilizer.

The drying of digestate

Digestate can be dried at high temperatures using residual heat. This drying ensures that the digestate can be further processed. Drying digestate reduces weight, making transport cheaper. Dry digestate can also be further processed into pellets and granules.
