Rough Cellulose
Rough cellulose is produced in the cell wall of plant products. Rough cellulose provides energy over a longer period. Rough cellulose acts as a stimulant for the intestines. Chewing roughage takes longer than chewing other feed. The dry matter needs to pass more easily through the stomach with the help of saliva, which is produced during chewing. Saliva buffers stomach acid. Stomach acid is continuously produced in animals. Roughage keeps the animal busy, stimulates digestion, and prevents stomach ulcers because it neutralizes stomach acid.
